1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Pagoda

Powells Auctioneers is privileged to announce the details of its forthcoming art and collectables auction in Cape Town, to be held at the state-of-the-art Woodstock venue The Argyle on Monday, 28 October 2019 from 11am. This unique sale offers extensive collections of fine investment art, diamond and gold jewellery, hallmarked silver, Persian and Oriental liquidation of over 50 new and pre owned carpets and rugs, Classic Motor Vehicles, Antique furniture.

“It’s been a long time since I have had such an accumulation of exceptional investment quality assets to come under my auction gavel” says auctioneer Philip Powell.

Accumulated from executors of deceased estates, liquidating authorities and private sellers, highlights of these investments include a 4,8 carat diamond eternity ring, 1,3 carat natural fancy yellow diamond ring and an outstanding Diamond and Sapphire ladies dress bracelet. While the fine timepieces collection showcases a Gents 18 carat Rose Gold Breitling Chronoliner, a Rolex Sea Dweller Deep sea (unused with papers and original box) a Gents Franck Muller Casablanca and a NEO Stainless Steel Gents watch and others.

Headlining the classic car collection of 4 legendary classic cars, a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Pagoda in immaculate condition, a Rolls Royce Corniche, a Bentley Azure convertible and a Bentley W12 Continental GT

Notable artwork by artists Gerard Sekoto, Gregoire Boonzaaier, Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser, Walter Battis, Trechikoff, Tinus de Jongh, William Timlin, Alexander Rose-Innes, and Beezy Bailey showcases the fine art offering.

A sizable collection of hallmarked silver features a Kings Pattern cutlery set (with over 200 pcs), a Heavy 1,7kg Geo II silver salver, a 1,95 kg Art Deco Silver soup tureen and ladle and Pr Geo III Berry Spoons still in their presentation box (London 1797). Highlighting that carpet collection is on a rare silk on silk, fine, semi antique Kashan carpet by Master weaver Abas Erami. Also not to be missed is an extensive collection of over 1000 bottles of wine and premium whiskies.

On the interesting collectables side, the discerning buyer will find tinplated toys, crystal glassware and decanters, porcelain, EPNS tableware and a unique handcrafted chess set depicting the historic political landscape of South Africa pre 1994.

These and other auction lots will be on display at designated preview times on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October at The Argyle, 1 Argyle Road, Woodstock, Cape Town.
